Manchester City face ‘doomsday’ scenario as EFL could block Championship entry

Manchester City could face a dramatic fall to the fifth tier of English football if they are expelled from the Premier League and subsequently blocked from entering the EFL divisions. According to TEAMtalk, journalist Ben Jacobs reported that the Premier League is pushing for a severe points deduction or possible relegation following City’s guilty verdict on 114 of 115 charges.

Jacobs also claimed the EFL could support the Premier League’s position and prevent City from entering the Championship, League One or League Two. Such a scenario could leave the club outside the professional English league structure and in the National League.

City deny wrongdoing and intend to appeal once sanctions are determined. No punishment has yet been confirmed, with an independent panel still required to hold a sanction hearing.
