Manchester United close in on £65m Carlos Baleba deal as Newcastle interest fades
Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, dealing a blow to Newcastle United’s interest in the Cameroon international. According to the Shields Gazette, United have offered around £60m plus £5m in add-ons for the 22-year-old, with talks described as amicable.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported that negotiations remain ongoing as both clubs work towards an agreement, despite the offer falling below Brighton’s valuation. Newcastle had recently been linked with Baleba as they looked to strengthen their midfield, but United’s progress now appears to have ended their pursuit of the highly-rated midfielder.
