According to VAVEL, Manchester United suffered a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Brighton in the Carabao Cup third round after throwing away a two-goal advantage at Old Trafford. Shea Lacey opened the scoring with his first senior goal before Mason Mount doubled United’s lead, leaving Michael Carrick’s side in control.

However, Brighton responded before half-time when Charalampos Kostoulas reduced the deficit. Pascal Gross then completed the comeback after the break with a superb finish, before Maxim de Cuyper struck four minutes later to put the visitors ahead.

United introduced Bruno Fernandes and other substitutes in an attempt to rescue the tie, but Brighton held on to secure a memorable victory. The defeat compounds a difficult start to the season for Carrick, with United now suffering another setback just days after losing the Manchester derby.
