Marco Rose sends message to Michael Carrick after Old Trafford humbling
Bournemouth manager Marco Rose offered sympathy to Michael Carrick as Manchester United suffered a 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford, leaving Carrick on the brink of being sacked, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
United’s third loss of the Premier League campaign leaves them with just seven points from eight games. Speaking after the match, Rose stated:
“I feel a lot of empathy for my colleagues, for everyone. Everyone has to understand that even we are just humans, and we try to do our job the best possible way. But if a game starts, the work is done, then it’s up to the lads, and then sometimes it’s about the momentum, sometimes it’s about a little bit of luck. At the end, it’s never easy for us again, and I feel with Michael, yes.”
Addressing his team’s tactics, Rose added: “No, it was never talked about the fans and United, it was always about us. We knew United like we did after the Chelsea game try to show a reaction and we have to try and be ready and we were. We want to be front-footed and brave. We have good players and we showed it. We were just Bournemouth today.”
When asked about his position, Carrick told Sky Sports: ”It wasn’t a farewell from me. I’m mixed emotions, I’m feeling it for my players, they’re going through a tough spell. Some of it we can help, some of it the situation unravels and the boys are feeling it at the moment. Mixed emotions for the supporters to respond in that way. To have that connection with the supporters, it’s mixed emotions, it’ll take a bit of time to digest but I certainly appreciate their support.
The situation is where we are and we haven’t had results or performances that have been good enough. It’s a tough situation, there’s no hiding from it. What it looks like and what’s next I really don’t know. I will always do my best for the football club and I won’t change that now. I love what I do and I feel the responsibility – we’ll have to wait and see.”
