Medical twin sisters die days apart in Yobe
Twin sisters, Dr Hadiya Usman, a medical doctor, and Dr Aidah Usman, a pharmacist, have died days apart after battling sickle cell disease in Yobe State.
A family member, Ibrahim Auwal, confirmed their deaths to PUNCH, saying Hadiya died on Friday while Aidah passed away on Sunday.
“It is a very painful development. Hadiyah passed away on Friday, and Aidah followed on Sunday. Both sisters had been battling sickle cell disease, and their deaths are a great loss, particularly to their family, friends and colleagues,” Auwal said.
Hadiya was an intern at the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, while Aidah worked as a pharmacist at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Hadiya reportedly died after spending about a week at FMC Nguru following a sickle cell crisis.
Aidah, who was also receiving treatment, reportedly recovered and was discharged but later died on Sunday.
The sisters were daughters of FMC Nguru Medical Director, Prof Hadiza Abdullahi Usman, and were reportedly buried according to Islamic rites.
