Melaye threatens protests if Atiku is detained over corruption petition
Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has warned the Federal Government against inviting, arresting or interrogating African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar over a corruption petition before the EFCC, according to The Punch.
In a video shared on X, Melaye said Nigerians would prove they outnumber those in government if Atiku faced action over what he called a frivolous petition. The petition, filed by former lawmaker Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, seeks to reopen 2005/2006 allegations of abuse of office and diversion of Petroleum Technology Development Fund money against Atiku, then Vice-President.
A Lagos High Court had earlier voided the EFCC’s administrative indictment as unconstitutional. No criminal conviction followed, and there was no confirmed indication the EFCC had acted on the petition.
