Meta distances itself from calls for coordinated AI slowdown

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said individual AI companies, not coordinated industry action, should bear responsibility for ensuring their technology’s safety, according to One America News, citing the Associated Press.

In a social media post, Zuckerberg distanced himself from a proposal by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei calling for companies and countries to coordinate a slowdown in AI development, a plan that drew support from OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Elon Musk.

Zuckerberg argued labs already face “significant liability” incentives to build safely and said Meta delayed its Muse AI agent for months without demanding others follow suit. He urged prioritizing compute toward serving people over pursuing recursive self-improvement, calling it key to safe AI development.
