Michael Jordan donates $10 million to UNC in honor of his mother
Basketball legend Michael Jordan has donated $10 million to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Social Work in honour of his mother, Deloris.
According to PEOPLE, the donation is the largest in the school’s history. Deloris Jordan will have her name added to UNC’s Global Social Development Innovations Center, while the university will establish a Jordan Family Scholars programme providing $12,500 scholarships to 10 Master of Social Work students.
Jordan said the gift was meaningful because of his mother’s lifelong commitment to helping children, families and communities. He also described North Carolina as “home” and praised social workers for their community impact.
