Moratti reveals beating Barcelona was sweeter than winning Champions League
Former Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has revealed that eliminating Barcelona in the 2010 Champions League semi-finals gave him greater satisfaction than winning the final against Bayern Munich.
Speaking to AS, as reported by Barca Universal, Moratti reflected on Inter’s historic treble-winning campaign under Jose Mourinho. “I was happier at the Camp Nou. I celebrated reaching the final even more after eliminating Pep’s Barça than after beating Bayern 2-0 at the Bernabeu. It was all sensational, without a doubt. Unforgettable,” he said.
Inter defeated Barcelona in a dramatic semi-final before beating Bayern 2-0 in the final, with Diego Milito scoring both goals. Moratti also recalled signing Brazilian striker Ronaldo Nazario from Barcelona in 1997, describing the deal as affordable.
“Barça set a price. Perhaps they thought it was high, but for me it wasn’t. I saw it as interesting, affordable. It was manageable,” he said. The former president also explained that he accepted Mourinho’s decision to join Real Madrid in 2010, recognising the Portuguese manager’s desire to coach in Spain.
