Neuralink brain chip converts imagined speech into words 

Neuralink has demonstrated a brain implant capable of translating imagined speech into audible words, marking another advance in brain-computer interface technology.

The company’s investigational N1 implant records neural activity associated with speech and uses software to decode the signals into text or synthetic voice. Neuralink says its VOICE clinical study is designed to help people with severe speech impairments communicate by converting verbal thoughts into words.

A participant with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis was shown using the system to communicate through synthetic speech without relying on normal vocal movement. The technology could eventually offer faster communication for people who have lost the ability to speak because of paralysis or neurological disease.
