N70k allowance: You can’t reject what you didn’t negotiate — NLC blasts TUC
Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero has criticised the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for rejecting the Federal Government’s ₦70,000 monthly transport allowance for public sector workers.
Speaking on Channels Television on Thursday, Ajaero described the rejection as improper, arguing that TUC officials were not involved in negotiating the agreement.
According to TheCable, the TUC rejected the six-month allowance on Wednesday, demanding salary increases instead. TheCable
“The agreement was not signed by TUC. You don’t kick against something you did not negotiate or ask for,” Ajaero said.
He maintained that the congress should negotiate its own demands rather than reject agreements reached by another labour organisation.
“You don’t have the power to reject what a sister agency negotiates. You have the power to ask for your own.”
The allowance, scheduled to begin in November, was approved following negotiations between NLC leaders and government representatives.
