NAFDAC pressed to investigate alleged presence of toxic chemicals in sanitary pads

The publisher of Weekenders Magazine, Princess Joy Omagha Idam, has urged the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control to investigate claims that some sanitary pads sold in Nigeria contain harmful chemicals.

According to Leadership, Idam asked NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Moji Adeyeye, to order independent laboratory tests to determine whether sanitary products contain substances posing health risks to women and girls.

She said millions of Nigerians regularly use sanitary products and deserve credible scientific information about their safety.

“This is not about creating fear or attacking manufacturers. It is about protecting Nigerian women and girls and giving the public accurate information. NAFDAC must verify these claims and tell Nigerians the truth,” Idam said.

She urged NAFDAC to publish its findings and take action against products found to violate safety standards.

Idam also called on manufacturers and importers to cooperate with investigations, saying consumer health and safety should take precedence over commercial interests and enable families to make informed choices.
