NASA to study lunar impact after SpaceX rocket stage reportedly crashes into Moon
A drifting piece of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is believed to have crashed into the Moon on Wednesday morning, according to Euronews. The 4-tonne stage, launched in January 2025, struck at an estimated 8,700 kph, likely leaving a 27-metre crater. It’s only the second known rocket part to accidentally hit the Moon, after a Chinese rocket segment in 2022. NASA said the impact poses no danger to Earth and will help refine space-tracking techniques. The incident has reignited debate over space debris ahead of NASA’s Artemis III mission to the lunar South Pole.
