NERC report: Benin, Togo, Niger’s electricity debt to Nigeria hits $11.16m

Benin, Togo and Niger owed Nigeria $11.16 million in electricity bills at the end of 2025, according to a report by Nairametrics citing the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The three countries’ utilities recorded an 84.90% remittance rate, paying $62.75 million of a $73.91 million invoice.

This marks an improvement from 2024, when international customers made no payment on a $14.19 million first-quarter bill. Domestic bilateral customers fared better, paying 96.60% of N13.20 billion invoiced, NERC’s 2025 annual report showed.
