Niger vigilantes accuse govt of sending them to terrorist war with inferior weapons as 12 die

Local vigilantes fighting terrorists in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State have accused the state government of deploying them with inadequate weapons and ammunition, leaving them vulnerable to attacks.

According to SaharaReporters, at least 12 people, including eight vigilantes and four civilians, were killed in attacks across Konkoso and Kabe wards between September 18 and 22.

More than 40 people were reportedly injured, with many receiving treatment at health facilities in Babanna, Zongoji and Pissa.

The vigilantes also alleged that suspected community informants were leaking information about their movements and positions to terrorists, enabling ambushes.

One fighter said the group was confronting terrorists with superior firearms despite lacking adequate equipment and protection. He urged authorities to investigate the alleged informants and strengthen support for local security groups.

The attacks have reportedly forced residents to flee affected communities amid continuing security concerns in the area.
