Nigeria police bar Amotekun, vigilante groups from Osun election
The Nigeria Police Force has barred Amotekun, vigilante groups, hunters’ associations and other non-state security outfits from participating in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election, according to The ICIR.
Force spokesperson Ani Iniedu said only constitutionally recognised agencies, including the police, SSS and Nigeria Immigration Service, would handle election security across all 30 local government areas.
The police warned that anyone engaging in ballot snatching, voter intimidation, vote buying or violence would be arrested and prosecuted, and cautioned political parties against arming or deploying unauthorised security groups for election-related purposes.
