Nigerian-American star Nneka Ogwumike hits 8,000 career points in WNBA milestone

Nigerian-American basketball star Nneka Ogwumike has reached 8,000 career points in the WNBA, becoming the fourth player in league history to achieve the milestone.

According to The Nation, the Los Angeles Sparks forward added the landmark to a career that includes a WNBA championship and the league’s 2016 Most Valuable Player award.

Ogwumike, a first-generation Nigerian-American born in Texas, was selected first overall by the Sparks in the 2012 WNBA Draft after starring at Stanford University.

She led Stanford to four consecutive Final Four appearances and graduated with a psychology degree.

Ogwumike won the Wade Trophy three times and represented the United States at the 2011 World University Games, winning gold.

She served as president of the WNBA Players Association.
