Gunmen Kill Five Miners in Plateau Attack
At least five miners were killed and two others injured after gunmen stormed a mining site in Marit village, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, on Saturday.
The attack, which occurred around 1pm, comes amid heightened tension in parts of the state.
Spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident.
Two Inmates Die as Cholera Hits Kano Correctional Centre
Two inmates have died following a cholera outbreak at the Kurmawa Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kano State.
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) confirmed the deaths in a statement on Saturday.
According to the Service’s spokesman, Chief Superintendent of Corrections, JN Osuji, laboratory tests conducted on September 23 confirmed the outbreak.

Plateau Diphtheria Outbreak Death Toll Rises to 31
The death toll from the diphtheria outbreak in Plateau State has climbed to 31, with 469 suspected cases now recorded across 10 local government areas.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Ba’amlong, disclosed this during a press briefing on the outbreak in Jos.
APC Camp Accuses Makinde of Paralysing Oyo LGs, Makinde’s Government Fires Back
The campaign organisation of the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has accused Governor Seyi Makinde of paralysing the state’s 33 local government areas.
The camp warned that Makinde’s emergence as President in 2027 would endanger local government administration across the country.
However, the state government has dismissed the claim as misleading, challenging Alli’s camp to provide evidence to support the allegation.
Lagos Police Arrest Six Over N20bn Import Diversion Racket
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested six suspected members of a syndicate allegedly involved in the diversion of imported goods worth more than N20bn over the past 19 years.
The suspects — Lateef Jamiu, Abubakar Amadu, Aliu Olanshile, Opeyemi Oyewale, Hassana Malami and Hassana Haruna — were arrested by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit following complaints by importers over missing consignments.
NDLEA, UAE Sign MoU to Strengthen Anti-Drug Trafficking Fight
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Drug Enforcement Authority of the United Arab Emirates to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking between the two countries.
A statement on Saturday by the Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, said the agreement was signed in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Man, 27, Arrested Over Killing of 80-Year-Old Father in Katsina
The Police Command in Katsina State has arrested a 27-year-old man, Sada Tambai, over the alleged killing of his 80-year-old father.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, adding that the incident occurred on September 21 at Mundadu Village in Bindawa Local Government Area.
Land Developer, Chief Taoridi Faronbi (Baba Alado), Dies
Popular land developer, Chief Taoridi Faronbi, popularly known as Baba Alado, has died.
He passed away on Saturday, September 26, and has since been laid to rest according to Muslim rites.
