Nigeria’s crude oil production declines again in August
Nigeria’s crude oil production fell by 5,000 barrels per day (bpd) in August 2026, extending a two-month decline, according to BusinessDay, citing OPEC’s September Monthly Oil Market Report.
Output averaged 1.50 million bpd in August, down from 1.505 million bpd in July, following a sharper 50,000bpd drop between June and July. This brings the combined decline since June to 55,000bpd, though Nigeria remained within its OPEC quota.
Secondary sources, however, showed a different trend, estimating August output at 1.57 million bpd, up 35,000bpd from July. Nigeria’s decline came even as broader OPEC-plus production rose by about 300,000bpd, with Iraq recording the largest increase among member states.
