No refunds for rejected visa applications, US tells Nigerians
The United States Mission in Nigeria has clarified that visa application fees are non-refundable, regardless of whether applications are approved or rejected.
The mission made this known on Wednesday through a statement posted on its official X account, addressing misconceptions surrounding visa payments, according to Leadership.
“MYTH: If a U.S. visa application is refused, the applicant receives a refund,” the mission stated.
Explaining the policy, it stressed that payment does not guarantee visa approval.
“FACT: The fee paid is an application processing fee, not a payment for a visa to be issued,” it explained.
“It covers the cost of processing the application through a final decision, so the fee is non-refundable, regardless of whether the visa is issued or refused,” it added.
The mission also warned Nigerians against fraudulent visa agents promising guaranteed approvals or refundable deposits.
Prospective applicants were advised to obtain accurate information exclusively from official United States government websites ending in .gov.
The clarification comes amid continued interest in US travel opportunities.
