Nurse dies of asthma attack at Ogun psychiatric hospital, colleague claims oxygen failed
A nurse, Taiwo Godwin Ayodeji, has died following an asthma attack at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, Ogun State, amid allegations of medical negligence.
According to Daily Post, Ayodeji, a post-basic nursing student, developed breathing difficulties while playing football and was rushed to the hospital’s emergency unit.
An eyewitness alleged that although Ayodeji was placed on oxygen equipment, the supply was not activated.
“I noticed he was on oxygen, but the oxygen was not put on,” the source said.
The eyewitness claimed his condition deteriorated before medical personnel intervened, with efforts to revive him proving unsuccessful.
Confirming the death, the hospital’s management expressed condolences and announced an investigation into the circumstances.
“The management extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, colleagues, fellow students, and the entire nursing community over this painful loss,” it stated.
The hospital promised a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation, urging the public to remain calm while authorities establish what happened.
