Obi opens door to coalition
NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has rekindled hopes for an opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying any potential alliance must be structured between political parties rather than negotiated between individual candidates — while firmly dismissing reports that he rejected a vice-presidential offer from ADC candidate Atiku Abubakar.
“I’m a candidate, yes. My leader, Atiku, is a candidate of another party and I am a candidate for another party. So, you are talking about two parties coming together; it is no longer him or me,” Obi said during an Arise TV interview on Thursday.
On the alleged VP offer, according to Daily Trust, Obi was categorical: “I don’t know where that was said. I wasn’t even in a position where that was being offered, and I refused.”
Meanwhile, NDC Vice Presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso separately urged Atiku to withdraw from the race, citing age and health concerns.
