OpenAI introduces PIN lock for private ChatGPT conversations
OpenAI has introduced a feature that lets ChatGPT users lock individual conversations behind a four-digit PIN, Fox News reports.
The feature, called Locked Chats, hides selected conversations from chat history, pinned chats and search results without deleting them. On supported devices, users can also unlock them with biometrics.
The feature is rolling out gradually to Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users. It works on the web, the iPhone and Android apps, and ChatGPT’s desktop apps for Mac and Windows.
On mobile, locked chats lock again after one minute away. On the web, they lock again when the page is refreshed or closed.
However, the feature is not end-to-end encrypted and does not change how OpenAI keeps data.
Users who forget their PIN and reset it will permanently lose all locked chats, along with memories and files protected only by that PIN. OpenAI says its support team cannot recover them.
The feature is aimed at people who share phones or computers.
