Amnesty International demands reversal of Madonna varsity’s sanctions on nursing students
Human rights organization Amnesty International has urged Madonna University to reverse the expulsion and suspension of 15 nursing students over a viral TikTok video, according to a report by The Punch.
The sanctions followed a clip recorded by 500-level students at the Elele campus as part of the “Gen Z nurses” challenge, showing them dancing in clinical areas. One student, Mercy, was expelled while 14 others received suspensions.
Amnesty International stated that the disciplinary measures are “harsh” and violate fundamental rights. “The students have the rights to freedom of expression, academic freedom and education,” the group noted, adding that “the expulsion and suspension… would create a chilling effect on the enjoyment of these rights.”
The advocacy group called on the institution to ensure its policies align with international standards, joining student bodies like NUNSA and NANS in requesting clemency.
