Patrik Schick makes history as Bayer Leverkusen edge past Freiburg 2-1
Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrik Schick has written his name into the club’s history books after scoring in a 2-1 comeback victory over Freiburg at the BayArena.
According to the official Bundesliga, the Czech international became the first player in Leverkusen’s history to score in each of the opening six matchdays of a Bundesliga campaign.
Schick netted the 76th-minute winner by tapping in Ibrahim Maza’s cutback, surpassing the previous record of five consecutive games set by Dimitar Berbatov and Stefan Kießling.
The victory handed Freiburg their first league defeat of the season and moved fourth-placed Leverkusen onto 13 points, just one behind leaders Bayern Munich.
Speaking after his milestone goal, Schick expressed pride in his scoring run as Die Werkself continue their strong recovery in the top-flight title race.
