Pelosi says El-Sayed “must win” in Michigan

Rep. Nancy Pelosi, former House speaker, lambasted fellow Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens for endorsing Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan’s Senate race.

“Haley Stevens has chosen to dangerously betray Michigan families’ healthcare, freedoms and future with her horrific endorsement of Mike Rogers,” Pelosi posted on X. “@AbdulElSayed must win — because Michigan and our country deserve better. -NP.”

Pelosi joins a chorus of Democrats criticizing Stevens’ break from the party.

Her post also comes days after she distanced herself from El-Sayed and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Pelosi called it “wrong” for Democrats to reject Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state.

Pelosi’s comments came during a podcast interview published Thursday. The host, a Jewish man and self-identified “lifelong Democrat,” criticized members of the party who oppose Israel’s “right to be a Jewish state,” which he said was antisemitic.
