Peter Obi: I’ll never abuse Tinubu, he has my respect

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said he would not insult President Bola Tinubu, stressing that the President commands his respect.

According to DAILY POST, Obi spoke on Friday at the 2026 All Nigeria Editors’ Conference in Enugu, themed, “The Ballot, the Media and the Task of Keeping Democracy Alive.”

Obi said political disagreements should centre on policies and the performance of public officials rather than personal attacks. He maintained that he had never abused anyone in government and would not disrespect Tinubu because he is Nigeria’s President.

However, the former Anambra State governor said respect for public office should not stop citizens and the media from scrutinising government decisions and performance.

He urged editors to assess political leaders based on their records, statements and qualifications, arguing that the character and conduct of leaders could influence the wider society.
