Peter Obi urges UK-based Nigerians to stop sending money home until Tinubu is voted out
Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has urged Nigerians living in the United Kingdom to reject financial requests from relatives back home while advocating political change ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
According to SaharaReporters, Obi made the remarks during a town hall meeting with supporters in the UK on Sunday.
“You have people at home who are begging you for money. Tell them no. Let’s put somebody who has proven… I said I’m not a saint, but at least I have said something,” he stated.
Obi criticised corruption and poor governance, arguing that mismanagement of public resources had undermined essential services, including education and healthcare.
He also presented himself as a less corrupt alternative to existing political leaders.
“So, let’s start with this one who is maybe less corrupt. We are not saying it is all, but let’s not pretend it is not happening.”
His remarks sparked criticism on social media, with some Nigerians questioning the implications for families dependent on remittances.
