Police officer, five others die in fresh Plateau attacks despite curfew

A police officer and five others have been killed in fresh attacks across communities in Plateau State despite a dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed by the government.

According to Channels Television, gunmen attacked security operatives attached to Operation Rainbow on Tuesday night, killing an officer along Gagshi Road.

Police spokesperson Alfred Alabo said three civilians were also killed in a separate attack in Rakok, Barkin Ladi, while investigations were underway to identify the perpetrators.

In Mangu, a youth group reported that three men guarding their community were ambushed by armed attackers during curfew hours.

Community groups criticised the effectiveness of the 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew, calling for stronger patrols, rapid response and intelligence-led security operations across affected communities.
