APGA claps back at Ganduje: APC rejected in Anambra

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has issued a rebuttal to Alhaji Abdulahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following his comments regarding Anambra’s political allegiance.

Ganduje, speaking at a colloquium organized by the APC in Nnewi, suggested that Anambra’s perceived political disconnect from the center was due to its continued association with APGA, rather than joining the APC, which holds federal power.

In response, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, the National Publicity Secretary of APGA, emphasized that despite being governed by a minority party, Anambra has fared better than many states aligned with the central government.

Opara pointed out the historical rejection of APC in Kano, Ganduje’s home state, in the 2023 elections, where voters opted for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), a minority party. He urged Ganduje to reflect on this development.

He highlighted that APGA’s presence in Anambra is rooted in performance-based governance, asserting that the state has consistently demonstrated progressive growth under successive APGA administrations.

From Peter Obi to Willie Obiano and now Professor Soludo, Anambra has maintained a trajectory of development, earning accolades such as the best-deployed ICT state and having the lowest number of out-of-school children.

Opara challenged Ganduje’s assertions, suggesting that Anambra’s achievements under APGA governance defy the notion that political alignment with the center is necessary for progress.

He also criticized the APC colloquium for devolving into a political rally and conducting a primary election, where Senator Ifeanyi Ubah was declared the party’s candidate without reservation.
