Poll: Majority of Democrats surveyed view military ouster of Trump positively

A new survey of Democratic voters found that 59 percent of respondents said they would feel “very positive” or “somewhat positive” if the U.S. military removed President Donald Trump from office and seized control of the government.

According to the New York Post, the Center for Strategic Politics poll also found that 55 percent would react positively if Trump died peacefully, while 87 percent expressed positive feelings about impeachment and 84 percent about removal under the 25th Amendment.

The survey was conducted among 683 Democratic voters, according to a separate account of the poll published by Liberal Currents, whose writer Chance Phillips said he partnered with the Center for Strategic Politics to develop the questionnaire.

The findings measure respondents’ stated reactions to hypothetical scenarios and should not be interpreted as showing that 59 percent of all Democrats actively advocate or would participate in a military coup.

The New York Post described the results as evidence of intense Democratic opposition to Trump. The Center for Strategic Politics describes itself as part of the progressive community and says it uses polling and analysis to inform progressive politics.

The survey comes ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, when control of Congress will be contested.

Trump, who is serving his second term, has faced strong opposition from Democratic voters. However, the poll’s findings depend on the wording of its hypothetical questions, the composition of its Democratic sample and its survey methodology, factors that are important when interpreting public-opinion research. The reported figures therefore represent this specific sample rather than every Democratic voter nationwide. :::
