Power minister: Nigerians tell me to slow down, say freezers are freezing
Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, said some electricity consumers have asked him to “slow down” improvements to power supply because their freezers were now working continuously, according to Vanguard.
Speaking in Abuja at the commissioning of a 3-megawatt solar hybrid project at Yakubu Gowon University, Tegbe said areas without electricity for months now receive up to 18 hours of supply daily. He acknowledged that some infrastructure was over 40 years old and being systematically replaced, while raising concerns over vandalism, citing the recent destruction of three transmission towers in Birnin Kebbi.
Tegbe said a joint committee involving the EFCC, police and NSCDC had been formed to protect electricity infrastructure nationwide.
