Professor Umeoduagu dies 24 hours after inauguration as Tansian University VC

Professor Cater Dike Umeoduagu, the newly inaugurated Vice-Chancellor of Tansian University, Umunya/Oba, Anambra State, has died barely 24 hours after assuming office.

According to Gist Newspaper, Umeoduagu, a Professor of Microbiology, was inaugurated as Vice-Chancellor on Friday, October 2, but reportedly became ill later that night.

Sources familiar with the incident said he suddenly fell ill around midnight and was pronounced dead at about 2am on Saturday, October 3.

The circumstances surrounding his death remained unclear as of the time of the report.

Umeoduagu previously served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Tansian University before his elevation to the institution’s top position.

He was also a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, representing Aguata 1 Constituency during the Seventh Assembly.

wHis sudden death has thrown the university community into mourning, with colleagues, political associates and others who knew the professor grieving his death shortly after he formally assumed leadership of the institution.
