Raphinha scores twice as Barcelona end Aston Villa’s perfect Champions League run
Barcelona ended Aston Villa’s perfect start to the 2026/27 Champions League campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory at Camp Nou on Tuesday night.
According to Al Jazeera, Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the seventh minute after capitalising on a poor pass from Joao Gomes inside Villa’s penalty area.
Unai Emery’s side responded positively but struggled to convert their opportunities, with Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia making several important interventions.
The hosts doubled their advantage shortly after the restart when Raphinha finished Fermin Lopez’s pass with a composed effort into the bottom corner. The Brazilian completed his brace later in the second half, converting Joao Cancelo’s superb cross to register his 19th goal across all competitions this season.
The victory lifted Barcelona’s hopes of securing a top-eight finish in the Champions League league phase, while Villa suffered their first defeat in the competition. Raphinha dedicated the victory to Tenerife striker Jesus De Miguel, who died following an on-pitch collision, saying: “may he rest in peace.”
