Real Madrid cruise past RB Leipzig 4-1 to extend perfect Champions League start
Real Madrid extended their perfect start in the UEFA Champions League with a commanding 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig at the Estadio Bernabéu on Wednesday evening.
According to a report by BBC Sport, summer signing Bernardo Silva netted his first goal for Real Madrid, converting from close range just two minutes before half-time after Arda Güler’s deflected shot squirmed past goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt.
RB Leipzig had pressed aggressively during the opening half, forcing Thibaut Courtois into vital saves against Christopher Nkunku and Rômulo. However, Jose Mourinho’s side took control after the break. In the 52nd minute, Güler doubled the host’s lead by tapping in a header across the face of goal from Kylian Mbappé.
Mbappé then added a third in the 83rd minute with a sublime curling strike from the edge of the box, marking his 12th goal in 12 appearances across all competitions this season. Although Leipzig pulled one back through Tidiam Gomis in the 85th minute, former Leipzig winger Yan Diomande sealed the victory two minutes later, firing a spectacular volley outside the penalty area.
The victory keeps Real Madrid atop their group standings ahead of Sunday’s crucial El Clásico against Barcelona. Real Madrid will return to European action on November 4 against AEK Athens, while RB Leipzig prepare to host Manchester City.
