Reece James undergoes knee surgery as Chelsea confirm captain’s recovery process
Chelsea captain Reece James has undergone minor knee surgery and begun rehabilitation, the Premier League club have confirmed. The 26-year-old defender sustained the injury during training, forcing him to miss Chelsea’s 5-1 victory over Bournemouth last Saturday.
According to The Sun, medical assessments confirmed that surgery was necessary, with the operation performed earlier this week. A Chelsea statement released on Friday said: “Captain Reece James has undergone successful minor knee surgery.
“The 26-year-old was absent from Saturday’s 5-1 victory over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge while medical assessments took place following the injury suffered in training. “Those assessments confirmed surgery would be the required course of action. “Reece has already begun his road to recovery and will be supported by the club’s medical department at Cobham during this rehabilitation phase.
“Everyone at Chelsea wishes Reece a speedy recovery and will support him on his road to return.” James has made six appearances this season. The latest setback could sideline him for several weeks or months, following a career marked by recurring hamstring problems and previous surgery.
