Report: Cornell 7 accuser opened up about self-harm struggle weeks before alleged frat house assault
A Cornell University student who claimed she was gang-raped by a group of fraternity brothers had engaged in self-harm weeks before the alleged incident, the New York Post reports. The woman, identified as Jane Doe, said she cut herself and left scars on her legs in August 2024, two months before the night she was allegedly plied with drugs and raped by the “Cornell 7” at a Chi Phi frat house.
Her November 2024 statement to the Cornell Police Department was first published in full by CBS News. Doe claimed that during the encounter, one of the fraternity brothers brought up her scars but dropped the subject.
She said the moment left her feeling isolated. “Hearing that my scars were brought up, but that none of them cared to ask about them made me feel super isolated and that I didn’t matter as a person to these men,” she added. Mayo Clinic describes self-harm as nonsuicidal coping with emotional pain.
