Republicans face “blowout” loss in midterms – CNN chief data analyst
CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten says the midterm elections are heading into “blowout territory” as Democrats gain in the polls, with voting just over a week away.
Enten made the forecast on Sunday, the Daily Mail reports, saying: “The midterms are just days away and I’m pouring over hundreds, no thousands of polls and data points.”
“And you know what the numbers are telling me? They are telling me that we are heading towards blowout territory! My goodness gracious!”
He put the chance of a House blowout at 71 per cent. He gave Democrats a 69 per cent chance of winning at least 230 seats, against just 2 per cent for Republicans. His forecast suggests Democrats could win 238 seats, up from the 232 projected in August.
In the Senate, Enten gave Democrats a 57 per cent chance of winning at least 52 seats, while Republicans have a 24 per cent chance of winning at least 51.
He put the chance of a down-to-the-wire Senate outcome at 19 per cent. “It’s possible, but it’s only about a one in five chance,” he said.
