Reuters: Trump calls ex-lawyer Alina Habba Mildon’s $50m contract “unacceptable”
President Donald Trump said on Saturday it was “unacceptable” for his former lawyer, Alina Habba Mildon, to secure a $50 million contract for herself while working at the US Department of Justice, Reuters reports.
Speaking to reporters at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump said: “I thought it was totally obnoxious and outrageous, and it’s not acceptable.” He said he told Habba Mildon he did not want her to be paid.
The New York Times reported last week that the family of Venezuelan banker Julio Herrera Velutini guaranteed her more than $50 million over four years, at $10 million a year plus bonuses. Herrera faced US felony bribery charges before a plea deal in August 2025. Trump pardoned him on January 15, 2026.
Habba Mildon said last week she was never paid for a pardon and did no work for one. The Justice Department did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
