Although local vigilantes have been searching for the victims, police authorities maintain that joint security operations are underway to secure their release safely.

Suspected bandits who abducted 15 Islamiya school students in Niger State have reportedly demanded over ₦100 million ransom for their release.

According to Daily Post, the students’ teacher, Malam Aminu Bako, disclosed on Wednesday that the kidnappers contacted village leaders with their demands.

The students were abducted while harvesting maize on Bako’s farm in Tungan-Bako village, Rafi Local Government Area.

Bako appealed for military intervention, expressing concern over the children’s safety and the limited rescue efforts.

“We heard that they are still within Niger State, locked in a building, probably without food. We are worried; we want the authorities to come to our aid to rescue them,” he said.

He claimed local vigilantes were leading search efforts, adding that only local government and police officials had visited the community.

However, Niger State Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun said joint security operations were ongoing to rescue the victims.

Police initially reported approximately 14 abducted students, while Bako identified 15.
