Rio Ngumoha makes history as Liverpool edge Villarreal in 4-3 Champions League thriller
Rio Ngumoha wrote his name into the record books as Liverpool secured a dramatic 4-3 victory over Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League at Anfield. According to LiverpoolFC.com, the forward’s delivery from the flank set up Ronald Araujo to make it 2-2 at the end of the first half of Tuesday night’s tie.
His incisive dribble and cross then allowed Alexis Mac Allister to fire in the Reds’ third goal as they went on to ultimately win the game 4-3. With his standout performance, Ngumoha became the youngest player in the club’s history to supply an assist in European competition, aged 18 years and 52 days – per Opta’s Michael Reid. Michael Owen previously held that feat, having assisted at the age of 18 years and 324 days against Valencia in November 1998.
