Rivers: Uproar as cultists renovate police station
The Rivers State Police Command has removed two officers following allegations that suspected cultists renovated the Abuloma Police Outpost in Port Harcourt.
According to The Nation, the Divisional Police Officer overseeing Abuloma Division and the officer supervising the outpost were queried and relieved of their duties pending investigation.
The development followed a viral video showing suspected members of the Vikings confraternity celebrating the facility’s renovation on Thursday.
Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju subsequently ordered an investigation into the project’s financing, approval and possible involvement of police personnel.
“Police facilities are public institutions established for the protection of citizens and the enforcement of law and must not become platforms through which criminal groups seek public validation or influence,” the command stated.
Police spokesperson ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo said the investigation would determine whether professional standards were breached.
The command maintained that legitimate donations must follow established procedures.
“No donation or assistance confers immunity from investigation or prosecution,” it warned, reaffirming its commitment to combating cultism and misconduct.
