Robin Fellhauer Makes Bundesliga History With Record-Breaking Goal Against Bayern
Augsburg midfielder Robin Fellhauer has set a new Bundesliga record after scoring the fastest goal in the competition’s history against Bayern Munich on Saturday.According to the official Bundesliga website, Fellhauer found the net in under nine seconds after capitalising on a costly mistake by Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
Bayern started the match by playing the ball back to Neuer from kick-off, but the experienced goalkeeper took a heavy touch before attempting to lift the ball over the approaching Fellhauer. The Augsburg midfielder anticipated the move, intercepted the ball and calmly finished into an unguarded net to establish a new record.
“I didn’t even realise it until the first injury break when Gregor came over to me and said, ‘Congratulations, you’re buying the drinks now’ that I knew something had happened,” Fellhauer told the Bundesliga at full time. “But now, after the match, it’s starting to sink in a bit and it’s an indescribable feeling to be part of something so big, something where you’re now immortalized in the record books. I don’t think anyone will break it any time soon.”
The previous record of nine seconds was jointly held by Kevin Volland, who scored for Hoffenheim against Bayern in 2015, and Karim Bellarabi, who netted for Bayer Leverkusen against Borussia Dortmund in 2014. Fellhauer’s remarkable strike has now placed his name at the top of the Bundesliga’s record books.
