Ruben Amorim forced to apologise after awkward 9/11 analogy
Ruben Amorim has been forced to clarify an awkward analogy involving a plane accident after making the remarks during a press conference on the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The former Manchester United manager was explaining how his AC Milan players should learn from mistakes and improve during training when he compared the process to learning from an aircraft accident.
Realising the sensitivity of the comparison, Amorim immediately acknowledged that it was “not a good comparison” before explaining that he simply meant mistakes should provide information that can be used to improve.
The Portuguese coach, who took charge of Milan in June, also appeared to revisit a familiar theme from his United tenure by discussing the influence of former club legends in the media. According to Daily Mail, Amorim said former players often have strong opinions despite football having changed significantly.
