GOP Senator calls out Trump’s $1bn crypto gains while Americans face hardship
Republican Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina has questioned President Donald Trump’s cryptocurrency profits and business dealings involving his family, warning that the arrangements could create political problems for the Republican Party.
Speaking to Stephanie Ruhle on MS NOW, Tillis responded to questions about the Trump family’s reported billions of dollars in earnings, including the president’s cryptocurrency interests. According to Mediaite, Tillis said the legality of the arrangements remained uncertain but acknowledged that “appearances are not good.”
“Anytime a president makes a billion dollars in the same year that people are growing up in a trailer park–” Tillis said, before Ruhle added, “Way more than a billion.”
Tillis also questioned reports surrounding Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding, saying he was concerned about alleged funding from a Russian oligarch.
“Again, is it illegal? I don’t know, but appearances, it’s the last thing we need. This is about the Republican brand,” Tillis said.
He called for the allegations to be examined rather than dismissed.
