Shakhtar choose Stamford Bridge as Champions League home ground
Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk have agreed to play their Champions League home fixtures at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge this season, in a move that will give the club a temporary base in London. The agreement, reported by Vanguard News, remains subject to regulatory approval.
Shakhtar have been unable to use their Donbas Arena since 2014 following the conflict in the Donetsk region and have subsequently staged matches at venues across Ukraine and Europe. Chelsea, who will not compete in European football this season, confirmed they are working with Shakhtar to ensure matchdays operate safely for players and supporters. Shakhtar described Stamford Bridge as a special opportunity.
