Shakhtar Donetsk want Stamford Bridge as Champions League home ground
Shakhtar Donetsk are seeking to play their Champions League home matches at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge this season, according to the BBC. Negotiations are ongoing, with the 40,000-capacity stadium considered the preferred option after the Ukrainian club assessed venues across west London. Shakhtar have been unable to use Donbas Arena since 2014 because of the conflict in eastern Ukraine and have staged European fixtures in several countries.
Chelsea’s absence from European competition this season means Stamford Bridge should have limited scheduling conflicts. However, approval from Hammersmith and Fulham Council and UEFA would still be required. The clubs have maintained a strong relationship since Mykhailo Mudryk’s 2023 move to Chelsea.
