Sowore promises N500,000 monthly minimum wage, 24-hour electricity, free education if elected in 2027
Human rights activist and African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has unveiled one of Nigeria’s most ambitious 2027 campaign agendas — promising a N500,000 monthly minimum wage, uninterrupted electricity, free education and one million public homes if elected president in January, according to Daily Trust.
Speaking in an interview with Independent, Sowore said the AAC’s agenda was centred on “revolutionary justice and equal rights,” arguing that Nigeria’s resources had not translated into improved living conditions for the majority of citizens. “Nigeria is enormously wealthy, yet Nigerians have been deliberately impoverished through corruption, incompetence and an economic system designed to reward a tiny political and business elite,” he said.
Sowore said his administration would target uninterrupted electricity supply, free education, affordable housing and stronger social protection for Nigerians. On housing, he promised to construct one million public mixed-income homes with schools, clinics, playgrounds and community facilities built into the estates — and to reform tenancy laws to reduce advance rent burdens on ordinary Nigerians.
Sowore also said Nigerians were “more ready than ever” for a leftist government, arguing that successive capitalist governments had failed to adequately address poverty and inequality. “Our socialism is practical. It means the wealth produced by society must improve the lives of the people who produce it,” he said.
Sowore will be making another attempt at the presidency under the AAC, a party he founded, contesting for the third consecutive time. The presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027.
