Sowore vows to fix Nigeria’s four refineries, keep fuel subsidy if elected president in 2027

African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has pledged to revive Nigeria’s four government-owned refineries and retain the fuel subsidy if elected president in 2027, attributing the refineries’ non-operational status to corruption and deliberate sabotage by previous administrations.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Tuesday, as reported by Daily Post,Sowore said: “There are four refineries in Nigeria, and I can make them work. If we are refining locally, even if we save N10 per gallon, it is a huge amount considering that we consume over 60 million litres daily.”

The human rights activist questioned why Nigeria imports refined fuel from countries — including refineries in Ivory Coast and Niger Republic — built by Nigerians, while domestic refineries remain idle.

Sowore also distanced himself from subsidy removal, saying: “The person who can sustain the subsidy, support the poor, and still fight corruption is who you go with.”
