Spider-Man: Brand New Day is closing the gap on Titanic in the race to become one of the highest-grossing films of all time, according to Hollywood Reporter.

The superhero film has earned about $854.9m domestically and $2.22bn worldwide, putting it within striking distance of Titanic on the all-time global box-office chart.

The latest figures reflect the film’s continued strong performance in cinemas, with its worldwide earnings boosted by another $109m.

The development places Spider-Man: Brand New Day among the biggest commercial successes in cinema history as it continues its theatrical run.
